If you happen to be like me, you love shoes. Expensive shoes that is. Unfortunately, along with the vast majority of the population, we don’t have the financial wherewithal to afford what we lust after 99.9% of the times. Fortunately, fashion embraces all of us irrespective of our financial circumstances. So fret not if money hasn’t grown on trees yet. There exist reasonably priced brands in the market, one of which that I’m truly, madly, and deeply in love with and feel responsible for re-introducing them to y’all is AMI– “friend” in French. Alexandre Mattiussi is the main man behind the brand and has years of experience at Givenchy and Marc Jacobs under his belt. He launched AMI in 2011 to provide men with an effortlessly stylish wardrobe. I mean if you’re still not sold after seeing their Spring/Summer 2014 collection, your heart really is made of stone. I fanboy obsessively over their no-nonsense and infinitely wearable Parisian chic clothes and of course shoes. The thing is AMI is still a small independent brand and therefore doesn’t have hundreds of shoes for you to pick and choose, but anything currently up for grabs is a home-run hit. Case in point: these low-top sneakers in black, white and forest green. The sneakers’ silhouette is classic and has a retro feel to it, but with patent leather stripe at side in metallic blue Alexandre has injected a high and healthy dose of fashion and style into them. The engraved AMI letters in blue, white and red (the colors of the national flag of France in case you haven’t realized) make for some fun details as well. These days, sneakers are teamed with almost everything from jeans to skirts to suits, which is a such a quirky yet practical trend though I had no immediate plan to test drive it until now. Pairing them with dark suits or formal trousers…I’m quite tempted. Ami Forest Green Suede Metallic_trimmed Sneakers is available on SSENSE for an affordable price of $295.
If you can’t have enough of AMI and want more of the good stuff, here’s the good news. I found the sneakers’ sibling named AMI Multi Panel Trainers on Matchesfashion for $238 only. While I can’t explain to you their name and price tag differences even though they are essentially the same except for one with metallic blue and the other with metallic rose gold, I can tell you that whichever choice you make, it’s going to be the right choice. Or wait, it almost slipped my mind. You are going to own both because when it comes to friendship, having two good friends is always better than having only one good friend. The more the merrier, right? 😉
