While leopard, snake, and zebra skin look ultra-sexy and enigmatic on women, the same can not always be said when it comes to menswear. Unless done very, very right. Four years ago in San Francisco, I almost pulled the trigger on a pair of leopard loafers at Yves Saint Laurent but stopped myself short for the sole reason that the print was too “in your face” too handle. This time, though, leave it to Christopher Bailey to make primitive animal prints look effortlessly manly by fusing the classic Chelsea boots with lustrous calfskin in dark brown, tan and ivory. Like I mentioned, this certainly isn’t the first time that men shoes are crafted in animal print but what seals the deal in this case is that the print is spotted thus subtle rather than all over the place to the point of being ostentatious, not to mention the elongated shape giving the boots a dressier feel. This pair will without a doubt make a nice, statement-level addition to your shoe rack. The final verdict: Super like– go for it if you can.
