I myself have never been a fan of fast fashion collaborations, even though I really like their idea of giving mass consumers access to high-end designs at affordable prices. The output of collaborations such as Lanvin with H&M, Maison Martin Margiela with H&M and Versace with H&M was pretty decent in terms of designs. Quality-wise, I can’t advocate since I didn’t lay my hands on any of them. The reason for my hesitation towards that kind of capsule collection is that they are too “fast” and “trendy” to last beyond one season, and thus I just couldn’t justify the purchase. However, when I heard about the upcoming collaboration between Uniqlo and Michael Bastian, I was jumping with excitement. Well, sort of. I do have a strong affinity for clothing by Uniqlo because just like anything Japan, the designs and quality are quite good given the price tags. As for Michael Bastian, the title “the prince of preppy American sportswear” speaks volumes about his aesthetics. The NYTimes ran a quick review of the collection the other day in case you missed it. The date of release, already bookmarked on my calendar, is May 20th. You can view more of the collection HERE. Below are my personal picks. What are yours?
